After your Appointment

What should I know for after endodontic treatment?

Dental assistant in the foreground with a dentist working on a patient in backgroundYour tooth and surrounding gum may be slightly tender for several days after your appointment. This is normal and is no cause for alarm. Do not chew food on the affected side until your endodontic therapy is completed and your tooth is covered with a protective restoration provided by your restorative dentist. Feel free to continue your regular dental cleaning regimen (brushing and flossing). Discomfort may be alleviated by taking Ibuprofen (Nurofen) or Panadol as directed.

NOTE: Alcohol intake is not advised while taking any of these medications. In a small number of cases, discomfort may not be controlled with the above medications, or should swelling develop, please contact our practice immediately.
